Audiobooks For The Book Lover

by Mike Copeland

Audiobooks are a great alternative for many people. An indispensable resource for the visually impaired, audiobooks are enjoying a wider audience -- from commuters who listen in the car, to busy students always on the go, to people who just don't have the time to sit down and read.

Audiobooks were once only recorded on cassettes, but new technology has emerged. Those popular portable MP3 players allow you to download audiobook files and carry them with you to the bus, the gym, or the line at the airport. Even if you have no time for reading, you can still catch up on the bestsellers everyone's talking about by listening to it during the daily commute.

You should use caution when listening to books while performing other tasks, since you can easily become distracted from both tasks. While you won't come to any harm if you miss a few paragraphs from your book, driving while listening to a book may contribute to an accident if you are focused on listening and fail to pay attention to your driving.

If you are interested in learning new skills or languages audiobooks will also be a great source for you. For some it is easier to comprehend something they hear rather than something they read, making printed books not always the first choice under these circumstances. Another way that audiobooks are beneficial is that you can listen and read along at the same time, thus doubling the amount of intake and making it easier to comprehend. This is an especially ideal situation for English as a second language students.

There are several websites available for the downloading of books, even some websites that are more commonly known for selling traditional books. The cost of the audio version may be a little more than the paperback version, but it will certainly be less than the hardback copy, making this a good alternative for those who are short on storage, or those concerned about the impact on the environment of book printing.

Audiobooks have been enjoyed for years by visually impaired people because they give them a way to enjoy media which is otherwise inaccessible to them. Recently, however, people who are not visually impaired have also discovered this resource, and are accepting and using it because it is more convenient and simpler to use than its traditional counterparts.

Although audiobooks have been around for many years for the blind, only recently have they become popular on many digital media, such as MP3s, which allow you to download audiobook. Listening to audio books is a great way to catch up on your reading, learn something new, learn a language, or occupy time at the gym or in line. They are often inexpensive and take up little space and are environmentally superior to paper books. There are also many audio books to download online. Just make sure to be careful when listening to an audio book so that you don't get in an accident.
